Community Coach Receives Royal Recognition!

Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme staff member Molly Bulmer has been awarded a King’s Commendation for Bravery for her courageous actions during a serious incident at Birley Academy last year.

On 1st May 2024, Molly and school receptionist Alicia Richards intervened when a former student attacked a 12-year-old girl. At the time, Molly was working as a Youth Mentor for SWFCCP, delivering the SAFE mentoring programme, which supports young people at risk of exclusion and helps them re-engage with education and positive pathways.

Marcus Brameld, Head of Community at Sheffield Wednesday FC, said:

“Molly has always been an outstanding member of the community team. Her passion, commitment, and resilience is truly inspiring. She’s an inspiration not only to our team but also to the participants on the many fantastic projects she’s worked on.”

This royal recognition follows a Certificate of Commendation previously awarded to both Molly and Alicia by the presiding judge, acknowledging their selfless and heroic actions following the trial.

Commenting on the 20 individuals honoured in the Gallantry Awards, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said:

"This is what true courage looks like. In moments of unimaginable danger, these extraordinary people acted with selflessness and bravery that speaks to the very best of who we are as a nation.

We owe each of them - and their families - our deepest thanks. Their actions remind us of the strength and compassion that run through our communities."
