Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United unite against racism

Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, alongside their respective club charities, came together for a community football tournament promoting inclusion, equality and respect across the city.

Held at the U-Mix Centre in Sheffield on Wednesday 21 October, the event brought colleagues together through the power of football, with a shared goal of sending a clear message that there is no place for racism or racial inequality in our sport, our clubs or our communities.

With teams representing both clubs taking part, the tournament demonstrated how football can bring people together, build positive relationships and unite people from different backgrounds.

Organised in partnership with Football Unites, Racism Divides (FURD), the event formed part of the organisation’s anniversary celebrations and supported the EFL’s Together Against Racism campaign, highlighting the importance of creating welcoming environments where everyone feels valued and respected.

Beyond the football, the event provided an opportunity for colleagues to connect, strengthen relationships and celebrate the things that unite us, both on and off the pitch.

Through initiatives such as this, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and their respective club charities continue to demonstrate their commitment to tackling discrimination and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across football and the wider community.

Football has the power to bring people together, regardless of background or the team they support. By working together, we can continue to challenge racism, celebrate our differences and help create a game where everyone belongs.
