Talk Club Fires Up Friendship

Participants from one of Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme’s weekly mental health Talk Club sessions came together yesterday for a barbecue – enjoying the sunshine, sharing laughs, and strengthening their friendships.
The group, who usually meet every Tuesday at Parson Cross Forum, first came together when the session launched over a year ago. Since then, they’ve met weekly to chat, have a brew, and open up.
This week, they decided to mix things up when Craig, a long-time attendee, hosted a barbecue at his home for the group.
Florent Fadiga, Health Lead at SWFCCP, said:
“It’s fantastic to see these lads come together, have a laugh, and bond through something so simple. They’ve formed a real friendship – a brotherhood. If just one laugh helps one of the lads feel better, then that’s what it’s all about.”
Craig, who hosted the barbecue, said:
“Joining this group is the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s been a great day. The team at SWFCCP, especially Florent, are absolute champions.”
Ian, another regular attendee, added:
“I’ve been able to use my experience to help others – and they’ve done the same for me. These are people I’d never have met if not for the group, and it’s just been brilliant.”
This Talk Club is just one of several sessions run by SWFCCP. Thanks to funding from Sheffield Council’s South West Local Area Committee, the organisation has now launched four additional Talk Clubs – bringing the total to eight. It’s a powerful reflection of their ongoing commitment to supporting not only the physical but also the mental wellbeing of the community.
