SWFCCP hold SWFC Women's Supporters Group consultation at Hillsborough Stadium!

On Wednesday, the 2nd of August, members of the recently established SWFC Women's Supporters Group descended on Hillsborough Stadium for their first in-person Members Consultation, held in partnership with SWFC Community Programme.

The night was a massive success, with guest speakers Liam Dooley (Chief Operating Officer of SWFC), Tracey Fidler (Designated Safeguarding Officer & EDI Lead for SWFC), Sean Graves (Senior Health Officer for SWFCCP), Laura Riley (Founder of Mums in Need) and Dawn Thompson (SWFC Her Game Too Ambassador).

The evening also saw the official announcement of SWFC Women's Supporters Group's 2023/24 charity partner: Mums In Need, a local Sheffield support service for mothers suffering ongoing coercive control after separation from an abusive partner.

SWFCCP is excited to work with the SWFC Women's Supporters Group further this season. Together, they're aiming to make positive improvements not just at Sheffield Wednesday, but also across football throughout the nation.

“We’re delighted with how our first in-person members’ meeting went. It was a brilliant opportunity to put names to faces and hear from our members what they want from our group. We gave a platform to several important people in and around the club who explained how committed they are to providing a safe and supportive space for women.”

“We also introduced our members to our 2023/24 season charity partner, Mums In Need, who explained their work and why it is so important for mums who have undergone post-separation abuse and coercive control.”

“Our members gave very positive feedback on the event, saying that they were very impressed by the dedication of Club and Community Programme staff and that there was a real sense of positivity. Some said they came away with a new sense of optimism about the future.”

“We can’t thank the SWFC Community Programme enough for facilitating the event and talking to our members about their work and role in linking the club to the community.” - SWFC Women's Supporters Group
