Young People Take Part in First Practical Adult Skills Session
Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme recently delivered its first practical adult skills session for young people taking part in its employability programme and Youth Club provision.
The session focused on developing essential life skills, with participants taking part in a hands-on cooking workshop led by Sheffield Wednesday Head Chef, Rob Cox. Working together in the kitchen, the young people learned how to prepare a simple and nutritious spaghetti bolognese, gaining practical experience they can take forward into everyday life.
Alongside the cooking activity, participants also completed structured workbooks as part of the session. This will enable them to achieve an AQA award in nutrition and cookery, supporting their personal development and future employability.
Sarah Nelson, Employability Lead at Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme, said:
“This was the first session we’ve delivered in this format, with a strong focus on practical skills. It’s been great to see the young people getting involved, learning something new and working towards a recognised qualification.”
The employability programme is funded by the EFL and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and forms part of the Community Programme’s ongoing work to support young people with the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to succeed in life.
Members of the public who are interested in taking part in future sessions can find more information on the Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme website. The cooking class will be running again shortly.
