Christmas Stay & Play
On Monday, 15 December, babies and their parents descended on Hillsborough for a special Christmas Stay and Play!
Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme’s Stay and Play sessions have been running for two years now and are funded as part of the Sheffield Family Hubs programme.
Since expanding earlier this year, the project has been led and designed entirely by a steering group of mums who have been attending since it began.
In the lead-up to the special Christmas session, the volunteer mums planned the event from start to finish. They created a shopping list, organised everything needed for the day, and structured the order of activities. They then took a festive shopping trip around Hillsborough to gather everything required to make the Christmas session magical.
It wasn’t just the babies who enjoyed the fun — a special visitor, Ollie Owl, very kindly gave Father Christmas a day off and made sure every child left with a Christmas gift.
Sean Graves, Health Manager, said:
“It has been fantastic to watch the babies grow and develop throughout the project, and just as rewarding to see parents forming their own support networks and community groups outside of our programme.
“We would also like to give a special thank you to Charlotte from the Family Hubs team for attending our recent event, supporting its promotion, and taking the time to network with the mums. Her presence helped highlight the services and opportunities available through Family Hubs.”
SWFCCP’s Stay and Play sessions have now finished for the festive period and will restart on Monday, 12 January, from 10:00 to 11:30am at Hillsborough Stadium. The session is free to attend, and no booking is required.
