Community College Celebrates Another Successful Year
Sheffield Wednesday FC Community College is delighted to celebrate another successful year across its post-16 education and football programmes, with students achieving excellent results both in the classroom and on the pitch.
The Community College, part of Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme, offers a range of full-time post-16 courses designed to support young people in developing their education, employability and sporting ambitions.
Students split their time between the Education Hub at Hillsborough Stadium and the Community Facility on Clay Wheels Lane, benefiting from access to modern learning environments, a state-of-the-art 4G pitch, community gym and pitchside classrooms.
This year, the college has achieved an impressive 96.5% pass rate across all qualifications, with 11 students achieving the highest possible grade in their studies. Staff are also continuing to support a small number of learners through the completion of outstanding work, meaning the overall pass rate could increase further in the coming weeks.
Alongside academic success, students have enjoyed a number of new experiences throughout the year. The college successfully launched its first-ever “Sheffopoly” enrichment programme, which proved hugely popular with learners and provided a fun and engaging way to develop teamwork, communication and life skills.
The 2025/26 academic year also saw the college take part in the Turing Scheme for the first time, with 10 learners travelling to Nijmegen in the Netherlands for a two-week international placement. The experience enabled students to immerse themselves in a new culture, develop independence and gain valuable personal and professional skills.
Success continued on the football pitch, where students represented the college across multiple competitions with outstanding results. The programme recorded five league wins across the Flexi Leagues within the Shadow Scholarship Programme, scoring an impressive 289 goals across all teams throughout the season.
Across 115 games, college teams recorded 61 wins and 12 draws, while keeping 26 clean sheets. The EFL A Team also enjoyed a memorable campaign, reaching the CEFA Cup Final for the first time since 2020.
Individual achievements were equally impressive, with one student, Alex, finishing as the leading goalscorer in the NFYL League and another student, Samer, ending the season as the college’s top scorer after scoring 38 goals in just 21 appearances.
The college also continued to provide strong progression pathways, with four students earning academy trial opportunities during the season.
Jimmy Hutchinson, Post-16 Coordinator said:
“We’re incredibly proud of what our learners have achieved this year, both academically and on the pitch. Their commitment, alongside the dedication of our staff, has created a fantastic environment where young people can develop, succeed, and take the next steps towards their future with confidence.
We wish all learners who are departing every success and look forward to welcoming our returning students back in September.“
As another successful year comes to a close, Sheffield Wednesday FC Community College remains committed to providing young people with outstanding educational experiences, personal development opportunities and clear pathways into employment, higher education and sport.
