Johnny Nelson Inspires Talking Group Participants
British former professional boxer Johnny Nelson paid a special visit to Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme's Crookes Mental Health Talking Group on Tuesday, 9 June, sharing his personal experiences and offering words of encouragement to participants.
The boxing legend joined members of the weekly group for an open and honest discussion about mental health, resilience, and overcoming life's challenges. Nelson spoke candidly about the difficulties he has faced throughout his life and career, highlighting the importance of talking, seeking support and looking after your wellbeing.
SWFCCP's Mental Health Talking Groups provide a safe and supportive environment where people can come together, share experiences and support one another through conversation, helping to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health.
Florent Fadiga, Health Lead at Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme, said:
"The visit from Johnny was a welcome blessing. As an individual, he has a lot to offer on the topic of mental health due to having gone through so many challenges, which he openly shared with the group.
"He had so many words of wisdom and support for the participants, as well as for myself. We run two Mental Health Talking Groups, one in Parson Cross and the other here in Crookes, and opportunities like this can make a real difference to those who attend.”
