Staff and Students Support Community Tree-Planting
Staff and students from Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme have been doing their part to support a greener, more sustainable environment across the city.
Their incredible Youth Team, alongside children from Oasis Academy Watermead, spent the day in Hillsborough Park helping to plant trees with local councillors and community groups. There were plenty of smiles, muddy shoes and even some buried treasure!
It was a fantastic experience for the children, who have now created lifelong memories by planting a tree they can appreciate as they grow alongside it.
Jacob Walkland, Youth & Integration Officer at SWFCCP, said:
“For the young people, it was about far more than simply planting trees. It gave them the chance to work together, take responsibility and play an active role in improving their local community. Opportunities like this help empower young people to build a more positive and sustainable future.”
It wasn’t just the Youth Team getting their hands dirty. Young people from SWFCCP’s Alternative Provision programme were also out in Parson Cross Park, lending their support to the city’s wider tree-planting efforts. One student said:
“I really enjoyed planting trees and helping Sheffield become even greener. It was great to get some fresh air and to do some exercise in a different way too!”
