SWFCCP expands support for New Mums through free Community Fitness Sessions, backed by Utilita

Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme (SWFCCP) is expanding its support for new mums by increasing the number of free, inclusive fitness sessions available each week, thanks to new funding from Utilita.

Over the past two years, SWFCCP has engaged with more than 200 new mums through a range of accessible fitness activities. These sessions have helped participants improve their physical health while also providing a welcoming space to connect, share experiences, and build peer support networks during early motherhood.

With Utilita’s support, the programme will now introduce two additional free weekly exercise sessions. This expansion will allow more new mums to access safe, supportive opportunities to stay active, improve their wellbeing, and reduce feelings of isolation that are often experienced during the early stages of parenthood.

Supporting physical and mental health wellbeing

The sessions are designed to nurture both physical and mental health, helping participants rebuild strength, regain confidence, and form lasting social connections within their community.

Sean Graves, Health Manager at SWFCCP, said: “We are incredibly proud of the impact this programme has had on new mums across our community. The demand for inclusive, supportive spaces is growing, and thanks to Utilita’s funding, we can now reach even more women. These sessions are about more than fitness; they’re about confidence, connection, and creating a sense of belonging during a time that can feel overwhelming. We’re grateful for the support that allows us to continue this vital work.”

Donna Hall, Partnerships Manager at Utilita Energy, added: “We’re delighted to support SWFCCP in expanding this fantastic programme. The early months of motherhood can be both joyful and challenging, and having access to free, welcoming fitness sessions can make a real difference. We’re proud to help create opportunities that improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and strengthen community connections for new mums in the area.”

A commitment to accessible community support

SWFCCP remains dedicated to providing highquality, accessible opportunities that empower women and promote healthier, more connected communities. The organisation expressed its appreciation for Utilita’s support, which will enable the programme to continue growing and reaching more families across the region.
